I had hoped to book their back room for a school reunion, but was sadly told they will not be using that room for functions anymore - at the moment it's
being used for storage!!!!

I actually liked the White Eagle alot and we went to eat there regularly as you can take dogs with you into the Snug. Prices were on the high side of
"reasonable" but quality and you got alot of food. However after they bought the Maelog and found out that for the first few months they could not
produce cooked food as the gas supply was faulty the White Eagle prices left up. And where you would have got a nice salad garnish or veggie garnish at least
with a main now nothing at all. I ordered fishcakes and got 3 miserly tiddlers with not even a token shred of lettuce. Needless to say we did not go back.
Obviously having to support the losses of the Maelog.
They did say they have tidied up the Maelog with a lick of paint etc but will ride out the summer then close in the autumn and do a full revamp. About time as I don't think the place had been repainted (or cleaned much) since Mr & Mrs Jones and their daughter Louise lived there and ran the place in the 1960's - early 1970's. Hubby had a pint there last week and said it was expensive for drinks, they are now doing hot food too but have not seen a menu. Stan - maybe you will be the first on the forum to give a full report??? |

Oh yes, I will give a report alright!!!!
We had lunch there yesterday (18th March 2009) on our way to the 'van. It was too late for the Bali Hi and Bee Bee's isn't open until the 27th. We had bangers & mash (3 sausages, mash, onions & gravy) and two soft drinks = £20.80!!!!! Extortion! Had we not been desperate to eat after a long journey, and needing to have something before setting up the caravan we would have walked out! The portions were extremely small, although very tasty. Will we go going there again? NOT A CHANCE IN HELL! We had sausage & chips today from the Bali Hi and sat on a bench over looking the sea to eat them. We then popped into the Glan Neigr for a drink. I checked the menus, which were much more comprehensive than the Maelog's. The daytime menu is very reasonably priced. The higher prices for evening meals being much lower than the Maelog's normal menu. It's disgusting to charge evening meal prices for daytime meals that are so small. We are looking forward to Bee Bee's good value when they open!

Hi Stan. Hope your enjoying the weather!
Someone told me that they went to the maelog for a meal and it was very expensive for the portion size they got and they also had to buy chips to go with it, as it was only a steak and a small side salad. They also said that they could not afford to go there often as many of the holiday makers may want to! |

We went there last night for a quick look - £12 for scampi & chips!!!!!!!!!!!! Good grief, we will never eat there, and the drinks were expensive. Like
you say for most meals you have to buy chips or veggies or salad on top of the menu main price wich seems to average £11. And I hated the decor, dark and
gloomy. The colours suit the White Eagle with it's high ceiling but not the old Mealog. I would have thought it could have been more "seaside"
with whites and powder-blues

Today we had lunch at the Glan Neigr, what a difference it is compared to the Maelog!
We both had the carvery, turkey with loads of roast spuds etc, then bread & butter pudding and soft drinks. The cost? Just over £21, but we had large plate fulls and desert for that, very good value............. It's 8.15pm now and I'm still not hungry! It's the Glan for us now if we want a big meal!

Are they catering for the yatching, doggy, drinkies on the terrace wetsuited crowd? They seem to have been driving out the buckets, spade and rockpooling contingent over the past few years (who just loooovvvve to relish chips on the Beach Road or Broad beach benches and take in the 'real' Rhosneigr). |

A gorilla waddled into The Maelog Hotel and sat at a table and looked at the price list..
The gorilla asked the bartender,"What are you staring at"? The bartender replied, We don't often get gorilla's in here sir. The gorilla responded, "little wonder with the prices you charge".................. He then went to Bee Bee's and had good fayre at reasonable prices with excellent service!

Some of the doggy, wet suit variety may be local - i.e us, BUT they have driven us away. I love to sit on the terrace after a calm evening dive with our dogs.
Been part of my life since the 1960's when Mr & Mrs Jones ran it and their daughter Louise was my best friend. The colour scheme is dire, may suit
the White Eagle with it's high ceilings and huge atrium but not the Maelog. And the loos stink as though they have not been cleaned since the 70's -
well not since the Jone's left. Just as the White Eagle has lost it's roots and become another Cheshire Set haunt for it's owners mates so the
Maelog is going down the same sad route.
